Solway debuts for NSW / T20 Double wins

Daniel Solway has celebrated his selection in the NSW Blues side with a sensational Shield debut. The magnificent stroke maker plundered 133 not out in his record shattering feat. For years the Torch has been pleading for run machine Solway to be given his chance and it finally came last weekend. The Bankstown Sports Bulldogs have been aware that Daniel has an extraordinary talent and his career has taken off with this explosive knock. His patience over the years has finally been rewarded and there will be no stopping him now. NSW were in all sorts of trouble as South Australian Chad Sayers ripped through them with 8 wickets. Solway was joined by Peter Nevill and together they rescued the Blues. In recent seasons Australian batsmen have been found wanting at the top of the order. Although it seems a belated debut by Top Dog Daniel it is reassuring that the Revesby local is still only 24 and has many years ahead of him. Bankstown’s cricket enthusiasts are delighted with the success of Solway and are eagerly awaiting his next games. Daniel took over as first grade captain this season and won the Bankstown Sports ‘Player of the Year Award’ for last season and is a Development Officer with NSW cricket, so he has always got the Blues foremost in his mind. With skipper Solway away, all-rounder Nathan McAndrew took over leadership of the Bulldogs and his side holds the whip hand in the first-grade fixture against the Mosman Whales at Memorial Oval. The visitors totalled 258 and in reply Bankstown are 3-109. 18-year-old Liam Marshall continued on his wicket taking way with 3-47 and he struck early with his lively pace. Tushaar Garg chimed in with 2-37 in his very economical spell. The reliable McAndrew claimed two wickets as did his good mate, left arm spinner Ben Taylor. The Bulldogs replied solidly with 3/109. The Club is delighted that Englishman Mark ‘Rocky’ Stoneman has returned to the Bulldogs kennel for another season. The former England opener looked in great touch following a strong season with Surrey as he cruised to 45 not out. Kingsgrove Sports T20 Double Header In the first match Campbelltown Camden scored a competitive 6/145 with all-rounder Mitch Brown the key wicket taker with 2/12. Brown was well supported by skipper Nathan McAndrew, Aaron Bird and Jarred Lysaught who each snared one wicket apiece. Immediately the Bulldogs began their innings dynamic run scorer Nick Carruthers made his intentions clear, smashing 42 off 29 balls to get the Dog’s players barking louder than his much-loved Labrador ‘Tugga’ who was enjoying at day at the cricket. The irrepressible Brown was not to be outdone smashing 54 off 46 balls while the evergreen Aaron Bird pummeled 32 off just 16 balls as the Dogs reached 3/146 off 17.2 overs. In game two, Bankstown defeated the Fairfield Lions. The visitors batted first and totalled 8/125. Ben Taylor claimed 3-15 whilst evergreen Aaron Bird took 2-21 and ever reliable Nathan McAndrew 2-37. The rampaging Bulldogs cruised to 1/126 with Mark Stoneman in sparkling form with 56 not out in just 52 minutes. Nick Carruthers was at his dynamic best with 46 with Mitch Brown completing the run spree with 21 not out. Carruthers is a real crowd pleaser and his four boundaries plus three huge sixes were testimony to this. Second grade Only rain can prevent a Bankstown win versus Mosman at Allan Border. The Bankstown total of 204 was disappointing but at stumps the Bulldogs were well in control with the Whales 9-105. Mitch Hinds played very much a lone hand for Bankstown with 79. The classy run getter plundered 12 boundaries and a six to keep the Bulldogs in the game. Ryan Clark added 30 valuable runs with 6 boundaries and Joel Brockley chimed in with 21 at the top of the order. The irrepressible skipper Tony Clark ripped into the Whales top order with 4-13 and the Bulldogs were barking vociferously. Jarred Lysaught was right on target with 2-37 from 13 probing overs whilst Matt Bursa was even more economical with 2-27 from 10 overs. Third grade Mosman batted first at Kelso Park North and compiled 229. Lively Jehan Bilimoria was at his spirited best and troubled the top order with 2-33. In reply the Matthew Dedes led Bankstown were 0-5 and look reasonably well placed to challenge the Mosman outfit when the game resumes next Saturday. Fourth grade Mosman capitulated meekly for just a 100 under sustained pressure from the James Bourne led Bulldogs. James Cheetham took two quick wickets as the Whales floundered under his onslaught. Blake Pearson rammed home the advantage and his 3-17 made sure Mosman were not let of the hook. Ryan Freeman sunk the Whales with 2-9, Cheetham finished with 2-16 and Koby Layton a wily 2-37. At stumps, the Bulldogs had cruised to 3-114 and banked the six competition points. Allrounder Blake Pearson completed a glorious double with a spectacular 53 which totally sunk the Whales. Ethan Prideaux was all class with an elegant 38 not out to ensure victory. Fifth Grade At Grahame Thomas the Bulldogs finished with 7-217 which was a reasonable effort. Bryan Handunneththi hit a very patient 68 but was unfortunately run out when triple figures seemed in the offing. Lachlan Johnson stroked the ball stylishly in his confident 49 whilst Peter Hayes added a classy 33. Johann Perera chimed into the run spree with 32 handy runs and it was a solid all-round batting effort.
