Downpour denies Dogs and Dragons

The Bankstown Sports Bulldogs were denied a chance of victory against St. George last Saturday at Memorial Oval. The Dragons reached 1-162 before a heavy downpour washed out play. Bankstown scored 4-379 on Day One and the visitors were certainly on target in their run chase. The lone wicket to fall came about through a magnificent piece of fielding from Jake Cormack. The athletic fieldsman scampered around the boundary and fired in a deadly rocket like return which caught Hopkins short of his ground. Ben Taylor once again impressed and pinned the Dragons down with 0-39 from 13 accurate overs. The spinner flighted the ball cleverly and looks a very good prospect. Strongly built paceman Rhys Williams beat the bat consistently and conceded just 32 runs in his lively spell. Bankstown will take on Sydney in a one day fixture at Drummoyne next Saturday.

Second grade

Bankstown’s 220 proved too many for the Dragons who capitulated for just 152 in reply. The Bulldogs carried on the good work in their second innings and when play ceased for the day at Hurstville the visitors were 4-191. Allrounder Tommie Sowden was all class with his polished 51 whilst Matt Simpson scored a useful 35 and former Dragon Matt Dedes a handy 31

Third grade

Saints 9-317 looked a great score at Jensen and in reply Bankstown were battling with 5-114. Jacob Malcolm topscored for the Bulldogs with a stoic 34. Cameron Cotter added a stylish 29 but the Bulldogs were struggling when rain intervened.

Fourth grade

Bankstown scored 101 and 0-34 but were outpointed by the Dragons who held on with 131. It was a much better start to the Bulldogs second innings with skipper Mat Kelly showing the way with an elegant 20 not out.

Fifth grade

Saints were struggling against Bankstown at Grahame Thomas last Saturday. The visitors slumped to 5-115 chasing the massive Bulldogs total of 5-326 Sanjiv Weerasingham proved incisive with 2-16 in his troublesome spell whilst Brendan Clark was his usually accurate self with 2-34.
