Bulldog Pups at National U19s

Two promising young pace bowlers from the Bankstown Premier Grade Cricket Club are performing well at the Australian Under 19 Championships in Adelaide with 18-year-old Liam Marshall representing NSW Metro and 16-year-old Brad Simpson representing the Cricket Australia U17 XI.

Marshall has been performing strongly in the Bulldogs first grade side this season and his services has been sorely missed by the squad over the past few matches, the side being defeated in both the two-day and T20 formats over the past fortnight. In Adelaide, the NSW Metro side has performed well with Marshall a key contributor returning figures of 2/29 versus the CA XI and 2/17 against Tasmania.

Brad Simpson is a year ten student and a member of the clubs second grade side. He made his debut in first grade against St George earlier in the season and represented Australia in April as a member of the under 16 Australian side that played Pakistan in a six match International Series in Melbourne. Australia recorded its best result to date with a three all tie of the series. He went on to be selected for NSW Metro in the under 17 National Championships held in Mackay and Brisbane in September, where he was the leading wicket taker for NSW.

Simpson also gained selection for the third year to the Cricket Australia Rookie Program which identifies talented players between 14 and 17 and provides high level training and exposure to what is required to play as a professional player. Following the under 17 championships Brad was selected again for Australia U17 side to compete the Under 19 National Championships in Adelaide.

Simpson has also impressed at the Under 19 Championships taking 1/37 against Tasmania and 3/30 against South Australia. The Championships will conclude on 13th December and depending on their fitness, Liam and Brad will be back in action for the Round 8 clash against Blacktown.
